A notification appears.

A message can be answered.

Another browser tab is already open.

Someone begins talking nearby.

The study task itself may be so vague that almost anything else feels easier.

This is why distraction should not be understood only as a failure of willpower.

Concentration is partly a design problem.

The more competing cues you leave available, the more often your attention has to resist them. The clearer the task and the harder distractions are to access, the less work self-control has to do.

It does not need to be beautiful.

An emergency message from a parent is not equivalent to a shopping promotion.
